2) You’ll have access to valuable free member services. Members have access to the CCM Listserv where your peers help you solve immediate problems in real time.  Monthly Hot Topic webinars feature current and emerging issues.  Plus, there is the CCM Member Directory, the CCM Online Library and results from CCM Web surveys.

A Word From Our President
CCM President Beth Swanson

Dear CCM Colleagues:

As many of you know, a new Board of Directors officially elected at CCM’s annual business meeting on April 30.  These volunteers are committed to doing their best work to advance the vision of CCM as a world-class, knowledge-sharing association for senior-level communications professionals.

Additionally, I would like to let you know that we have had a change to the Officer team. Ted Pile has asked to step out of his Chief Technology Officer position given the abundance of work a recent company merger has created for him. Happily, Ted will remain on the CCM board for the remainder of his term which ends in April 2010.

Geri Rhoades was approved by a board vote to assume Ted's position effective at the end of May -- becoming CTO through April 2010. Her charge will be to carry out the strategic vision for CCM's website to become a fuller extension of our community. She will be working with a subsection of the Board currently involved in web processes and content development to make this happen. Continue reading ...

Why the engagement is off

Denise C. Baron

By Denise C. Baron

One of life's great mysteries is how the term "employee engagement" morphed from an innocuous, albeit irritating buzz phrase into a business. We're now seeing books on the subject and multi-day conferences cropping up, all dedicated to engaging our employees and promising to turn them from disgruntled to delighted.

Thing is, employee engagement is directly tied to the effectiveness of the organization's leadership. The equation is simple: Poor leadership = Disengagement. If that applies to your organization, no book or conference or seminar or webinar is going to change it.

Everybody wants to be able to believe in their leaders. Everybody. When you can't say, with conviction, that you trust that leadership is acting in the best interest of the company and its employees, that you admire and respect your leadership team, that you even - uh-hem - like them, you probably have an engagement issue.

The question is: Can it be fixed? The answer is: It depends.

Say you're saddled with a leadership team whose modus operandi is to hole themselves up in Executive Row and make the rare appearance only when circumstances necessitate it... Continue reading Denise Baron's "Why the engagment is off"
